Responsibility to secure high-quality timber from well-managed forests

Securing high-quality timber resources from well-managed forests is our most important concern for the future. As processors of wood - the most versatile and renewable resource - we have a particular responsibility to protect and conserve it. This is why we decided to buy and develop our own forest land under Danzer Forestland with a long term perspective on forest management and quality. Danzer Forestland is committed to being environmentally well-managed by our staff of experienced and trained foresters.  Our aim is to use optimum forest management to establish and grow superior forests and supply an ever-increasing proportion of timber requirements from our own forests.

Our procurement of North American Species is ISO 14001:2004 certified

An Environmental & Safety Management System (ESMS) for our procurement of North American species has been implemented. It was successfully certified to the ISO14001:2004 standard and is to be annually audited by the independent company SGS of Switzerland. The system ensures that the direct impact through our procurement is continually reduced as well as the indirect impact on the forest where our wood originates. We abide by all applicable forest legislation and we are dedicated to the thoughts of sustainability. This requires a close and trustfully cooperation with our suppliers.

Sustainable management of forests owned and managed by Danzer

We are also playing an active role in shaping the future abroad.

We are confident that a sustainable, environmentally and economically viable forestry program can be established in the tropical forests as well. At our concession in the Republic of Congo, we have set up a plan for sustainable forest management and plan to achieve certification to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) by 2009.

In North America Danzer Forestland Inc. is the beginning of a timberland base for Danzer, whose holding we intend to continuously increase.  Within our current managed properties we have planted a seed orchard where, in co-operation with Purdue University and the state of Indiana, we are producing superior seeds in order to grow premium trees in the state nurseries for the future.
