In 2001 a new Danzer Group company that focuses on the acquisition and management of timberland was founded in Pennsylvania, USA. The company, Danzer Forestland Inc., was developed to identify forestland acquisition opportunities and to manage these lands for a sustained yield of high quality logs. The combination of forest management expertise and the high level of log quality knowledge within the Danzer Group make this possible.

Currently Danzer Forestland owns a total of 47,589 acres in North America.  It owns approximately 28,597 acres in New York, 11,786 acres in Pennslyvania, and 7,206 acres in Indiana. Additional acquisitions of forestland are planned.

While the focus of management is the production of high quality logs, emphasis is placed on forest regeneration to provide for a sustained production far into the future. Other forest amenities such as wildlife, streams and wetlands, soils, and aesthetics are likewise served as a result of the overall forest stewardship ethics and community responsibility of the company.

In addition to identifying high quality acquisition opportunities, Danzer Forestland personnel are working on the development of an information management system that will combine forest inventory data, tree quality assessment, and growth projections with a geographic information system. The system will allow for spatial analysis and querying capabilities of forest inventory data to identify, map, and prioritize forest management and harvesting opportunities.

Danzer Forestland is a very important project that demonstrates the Danzer Group's commitment to environmentally responsible forest management.  Securing high-quality timber resources is our most important concern for the future. As processors of wood - the most versatile and renewable resource - we have a particular responsibility to protect and conserve it. Although the volume of wood growing in temperate forests has been increasing worldwide for decades, the proportion of the high quality timber needed for veneer production is exhibiting the opposite trend. In addition, environmental protection measures can make the task of obtaining suitable veneer logs even more difficult by removing vast forest areas from the market. Thanks to the continued development of our manufacturing techniques, we have been able to supply our customers with a consistent quality of veneers they expect from us at a competitive price.
